The Farm

Discover everything we do here on the farm, from our regenerative farming practices to caring for the livestock that roam freely among the trees.

Regenerative farming is a sustainable approach that goes beyond traditional agricultural practices. At its core, it seeks to restore and enhance land health by actively replenishing soil fertility, preserving biodiversity, and fostering resilient ecosystems. Unlike conventional methods, regenerative farming works with nature rather than against it, mimicking natural processes to restore the land's vitality. Key principles of our farming practices include agroforestry, rotational grazing, minimal tillage, companion and cover cropping, and incorporating diverse plant and animal species. These practices not only contribute to healthier soil but also help sequester carbon from the atmosphere. Additionally, regenerative farming promotes water conservation, reduces the need for synthetic inputs, and creates a more symbiotic relationship between farmers and the environment.

Regenerative Farming

As a regenerative farm, we are committed to producing the most nutritious food by nurturing the soil, avoiding chemical inputs, and farming in harmony with nature. Our mission is to enhance soil resilience, improve water quality, and adapt to climate changes through sustainable practices. Our native and rare breed livestock roam freely in the woodland, interacting with the landscape as they have for millennia. Their natural foraging and grazing support their well-being and contribute to ecosystem health by promoting biodiversity and improving soil fertility. In our no-dig terraced Market Gardens, we grow nutrient-rich food. By avoiding soil disturbance, we preserve soil structure, enhance microbial life, and reduce erosion. We believe that transparency builds trust, connecting people to the food they eat and reinforcing its quality and value. By sharing our methods and values with the community, we aim to foster a deeper understanding of where food comes from and the importance of sustainable farming practices.

Our Farm

Farming in the forest offers unique opportunities to build resilience. By integrating woodland ecosystems into our farming practices, we create a harmonious coexistence that supports a diverse range of plant and animal species. The woodlands contribute to rich biodiversity, essential for overall farm health and resilience. Woodlands also play a crucial role in carbon sequestration, helping to mitigate climate change by storing carbon in trees and soil. Additionally, tree roots protect soil from erosion and act as natural filters, trapping sediments and pollutants while regulating water flow. Through responsible forestry management, including selective harvesting, coppicing, and replanting, we conserve biodiversity and maintain diverse habitats. This approach sustains ecosystem health, boosts farm productivity, and strengthens environmental stewardship.

We believe in giving a wonderful life as close to as they would have in the wild with a few added benefits. Our livestock roam freely in the woodland, foraging naturally and living in harmony with the environment. We strictly avoid the use of any chemical inputs, choosing instead to focus on holistic, regenerative practices that prioritise animal welfare and environmental health. By nurturing the soil, restoring the landscape, and promoting biodiversity, we aim to enhance the overall vitality of our woodlands and pastures, ensuring a sustainable and thriving ecosystem for both our animals and the land. life as close to as they would have in the wild with a few added benefits. Our Ethos

Our rare breed and heritage livestock are at the heart of our regenerative farming practices, roaming freely in woodlands and pastures where they engage in natural behaviours that improve both their health and the ecosystem. All our animals are entirely free-range, foraging in diverse landscapes and enjoying ample space and natural light, which strengthens their immunity and ensures a stress-free life. And any supplemental feed is certified organic. Rare breeds are often more adaptable and hardy, making them well-suited to various climates. They are also excellent foragers and possess greater genetic diversity, enhancing their resilience to disease and making them an important genetic resource for sustainable farming. Our free-range, woodland-foraging chickens consist of various rare breeds, producing eggs in a beautiful array of colours. These eggs are sold locally under the name Bramble & Blue Forested Eggs. In our woodlands, our rare breed pigs play a dual role. They naturally disturb the soil, uncovering seed banks and encouraging new growth, while also being ethically raised for their high-quality meat.

We are deeply committed to enhancing wildlife and restoring native species to our woodlands through rewilding and careful agricultural practices. By integrating selective harvesting, coppicing, and replanting, we create diverse habitats at different stages of their lifecycle, supporting a wide range of species and contributing to overall ecosystem health. We are currently working on projects to reintroduce native species like beavers to our farm, whose presence can naturally regulate waterways and boost biodiversity. Our goal is to increase farm biodiversity, creating a thriving environment where wildlife can flourish and the ecosystem can regenerate naturally.

Our no-dig market gardens are thoughtfully integrated throughout the farm, nestled in natural forest clearings where agriculture and nature work together. Across the farm, you’ll find a variety of garden spaces, from traditional market gardens producing fruits and vegetables for the North of Nowhere Farm team to newly created terraced gardens that follow the land's natural contours. These terraced gardens include a large space for growing food for the community and guests on the farm, as well as a smaller medicine garden dedicated to herbs and medicinal plants. Central to our growing practice is the no-dig method, a regenerative approach that enhances soil health by preserving its natural structure, protecting vital microorganisms, and promoting healthy root systems. This method reduces erosion, enhances soil fertility, and helps sequester carbon. We use no chemicals in any part of our production, relying solely on natural processes and organic inputs to ensure everything we grow is healthy, nutrient-rich, and contributes to the land's long-term regeneration.
